Mr. Elvin J. Hirl, P.T., a 1956 graduate of the University of Iowa Physical Therapy Program, established professional service contracts for physical therapy at Jane Lamb Memorial and Mercy hospitals in 1968. As his physician referrals increased and homebound therapy services were begun through a contract with the Clinton Visiting Nurses Association, the need for a second full-time therapist became evident. Gary D. Vande Kamp, P.T., also a U of Iowa trained therapist, joined Mr. Hirl in October of 1969. Treatment services were thereafter extended to the nearby Morrison and DeWitt Community hospitals in response to area physician requests. Though the hospital service contracts have since ended, Clinton Physical Therapy offices have remained an integral part of these communities.

Independent practice service centers have been established at the Medical Associates Clinic (1985) and Bluff Medical Center (1991). Similar user friendly physical therapy offices are now operating in Savanna (1994) and Morrison, IL (1993), also DeWitt, IA (1998). A joint venture opportunity with Kevin Swanson, P.T., resulted in the development of Plaza Physical Therapy at the Mississippi Valley Surgery Center, Davenport, IA in the fall of 1997, also North Scott Physical Therapy in Eldridge, IA the following year.

Homebound therapy has remained a vital part of our professional group (18 physical therapists and 2 occupational therapists) through contracts with agencies throughout Clinton and Jackson counties in Iowa, Carroll and Whiteside counties in Illinois.

Our most recent addition, Westgate Physical Therapy, Clinton, IA commenced operation in late January of 2003. Orthopedic, general and industrial rehabilitation services are provided through referral from specialists of Westgate Medical Plaza and other nearby physicians.

Mr. Gary D. Vande Kamp, P.T. is acting president of CPTS. Mr. Duglas J. Brondyke, P.T. associate 1985 and current Vice-President and Mr. James M. Norman, P.T. associate 1990 and current Assistant Vice-President have provided invaluable leadership in the continued success and growth of our company. Elvin Hirl stepped down from ownership in January of 1993, but continued as a full-time associate therapist until his retirement in 2001. He continues to work part-time, providing coverage on an as needed basis.
